Reverse Bone Loss

Long term soy intake appears to reduce the turnover of bone and retain bone density. A recent review concluded that isoflavones reduce menopausal bone loss in the spine. A two year study of postmenopausal women found that 500ml of soymilk daily, providing 50grams of isoflavones, maintained and even increased spinal bone density. About 45 percent of the women were equol producers and had greater increases in bone density (2.4-2.8 percent compared to 0.3-0.6 percent in non-equol producers)
