Wonderful Mask Indian recipes

Monisha Bharadwaj, the author of India's beauty secrets (Kylie Cathie, 2008), suggest these wonderful Indian recipes for fun home facials that you can whip up in a flash.

  1. Yoghurt and Lemon Mask
This mask is ideal for Kapha types (oily skin, thick in texture with large pores; prone to breakouts). egg white is cleansing, honey is soothing and antibacterial and lemon tones skin.
Combine 1 1/2 teaspoons honey, juice of 1/2 lemon, 3 tablespoons natural yoghurt and 1 egg white. Apply to face and neck and lie down for 15 minutes. rinse off.

  2. Hydrating Mask
This suits dry, Vata type skin (dry, thin, sensitive skin; susceptible to dullness and wrinkles). Honey has a hydrating and humectant effect (meaning it helps to "lock" moisture into skin) and egg yolk is rich in vitamins A, D, and E and Amino acids, which boost a tired, lacklustre complexion.
Buff off dead skin with 1 teaspoon of raw oatmeal. This reveals new, fresh skin cells that will be receptive to mousturising. Mix together 1 egg yolk and 1 teaspoon of honey. Apply to face and neck and lie down for 15 minutes. Rinse off.

  3. Herbal Steam
Indian women regularly practise facial steaming at home. It's an effective and inexpensive means of opening and cleansing the pores, so they can be emptied of oil and dirt; it's also very calming to the mind and spirit.
Fill bowl with boiling water and add 1 teaspoon each of; grated citrus peel, tulsi powdered fennel seed, lemon balm and peppermint. Tent your head with a towel and lean over the aromatic steam, inhaling deeply. Stay hthere for 10 minutes, then rinse face with cool water.

Seventh Generation Baby Wipes

Completely Natural Cleaning for Your Baby
Every caregiver wants what's best for their children and the world they will grow up in. Studies show that children are disproportionately affected by daily exposures to toxic chemicals. But caregivers often had to choose between products that worked and products that were healthy for their baby and the planet. Until now.

When chlorine and chlorine derivatives are used in industrial processes (such as bleaching paper and wood pulp), they produce substances called chlorinated hydrocarbons, which persist in the environment, accumulate in animals and people, and can be toxic to human and environmental health. The production of chlorine can also release the toxic metal mercury into the environment.

These baby wipes are made with all-natural ingredients, including water, Polysorbate 20 (a cleansing agent derived from sugar), glycerin (soothes and cleanses skin, vegetable-oil derived), citric acid (provides stability and pH balance), potassium sorbate (a natural preservative), aloe barbadensis gel (helps heal skin), and tocopherol acetate (Vitamin E acetate, helps heal skin).

Hypo-allergenic, whitened without chlorine bleach, unscented, and alcohol free, Seventh Generation Chlorine Free Baby Wipes offer are perfect for around the house.

Battle Blemishes

Whether in the form of blackheads, whiteheads, blemishes are a bane at any age. anytime there's a buildup of excess sebum - a fatty secretion of the sebaceous glands - pores can become blocked, inflammation ensues and blemishes arupt.

Hormones - particularly testoterone - and stress are big acne triggers. However, it seems that food might play a more active role in triggering acne than previously believed. The entire western junk food diet of highly refined starchy and sugary foods may be to blame. Colorado State University researchers report an astonishing difference in the rate of acne incidences between primitive populations eating all-natural foods and diets of Westernized societies. Of the two study groups - 1,200 people (including 300 teens ) in New Guinea and 115 hunter-gathers of Paraguay - not a single case of acne was abserved during the two-year study. The theory is that the high-glycemic foods of the typical Western diet spike blood sugar levels, thereby elevating testoterone levels, leading to an overproduction of sebum and blockage of pores thet trigger acne.

BOTANICAL OPTION

In some cases botanicals can help clear up blemishes as well as benzoyl peroxide ( which can be extremely drying to the skin ), with significantly fewer side effects. Tea tree oil ( Melaleuca alternifolia ) contains a host of phytochemicals with antiseptic and fungal-killing activities. tea tree oil should only be used topically

Steam Your Way to Glowing Skin

facial steamA facial steam is a great way to deep-cleanse your pores and bring a healthy flush to your face. My sister has told me when she hasn't married and we lived together in my parent's house. In this Book -- Rosemary Gladstar's Family Herbal --, renowned herbalist Rosemary Gladstar shares her favorite recipes for facial steams.

--> STEAM FOR DRY TO NORMAL SKIN

- 3 parts comfrey leaf ( symphytumofficinale )
- 2 parts calendula (Calendula officianalis )
- 2 parts chamomile ( Matricaria recutita )
- 2 parts rose ( rosa spp.)
- 1 part lavender ( Lavandula angustifolia )

Mix herbs together. Store in an airtight glass bottle. Use as instucted below.

--> STEAM FOR NORMAL TO AILY SKIN

- 3 parts comfrey leaf
- 3 parts calendula
- 1 parts raspberry leaf ( Rubus ideaus )
- 1 part sage ( Salvia officinalis )
- 1/4 part rosemary ( Rosemarinus officinalis )

Mix herbs together. Store in an airtight glass bottle. Use as instucted below.

To perform a facial steam, bring 2 to 3 quarts of water to a boil in a large pot. Toss in a healthy handful of your herbal blend, cover and let simmer for a couple of minutes. Remove pot from heat and place on a heatproof surface at a level that will enable you to comfortably sit and place your face over the pot. Leaning over the pot, drape a large, thick towel over your head and the pot, capturing the steaming herb water. It will get very hot under the towel. To regulate the heat, raise or lower your head or lift a corner of the towel to let in a little cool air. Steam for 5 to 8 minutes, then rinse your face with cool water.

Note : individuals with rosacea or very sensitive skin should not use a facial steam.
