Relax With LAvender

Lavendar flowerThe fragrant purple spikes of lavender (Lavandula Angustivolia) are well-known for their relaxing and mood-lifting effects. Since ancient times, lavender has been a beloved herb for easing stress and anxiery, and as natural sleep aid.

Numerous studies have shown that the fragrance of lavender significxantly decreases anxiety, including in high stress situations, such as dental offices and nursing homes, and during medical procedures. In studying the effects of scent on the brain, scinetists have found that lavender increases the type of brain waves that are assosiated with relaxation.

To enchance sleep, fill a small muslin tea bag eith dried lavender flowers and place it inside your pillowcase. Soaking in warm bath with lavender essential oil is another pleasant way to take advantage of the relaxing benefits of lavender.

SOOTHING LAVENDER BATH

1 cup Epsom salts
1 cup baking soda
10 drops lavender essential oil

Fiil a bathtub with comfortably warm water and Epsom salts and baking soda while the tub is filling. (epsom salts are rich in magnesium and aid relaxation, and baking soda is a skin softener). Just before entering the tub, add lavender assential oil. Soak for 15-20 minutes
